About This Blog

My name is Liz Murphy and I am Journalism student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  This is a blog that I will be working on for a Multimedia Journalism course that I’m taking.

My professor asked that we pick a topic pertaining to health, so I decided to discuss eating disorders.

My sister has been struggling with anorexia for a few years, at least. I remember her counting calories as far back as seventh grade, which is now close to a decade ago. I’m not sure is that’s where it all started or not. To be honest, I am not sure about a lot of things having to do with her illness. She has been in treatment, and at present is doing fairly well.

But I still want to know more.

I am going to use this blog to help myself understand a little bit more about eating disorders. I am going to try to look at a broad spectrum, and hopefully make this blog into a resource that people will refer to.

If there is ever anything specific you want me to look into, just comment and I’ll do my best to find out and get back to you. And if you disagree with anything I write, let me know. I am still learning about all of this and would appreciate your imput.

Also, please feel free to comment and share your own stories and struggles either with an eating disorder, or with someone in your life who is, or has, dealt with one.

I want this blog to be a safe space to learn about eating disorders, treatments, and effects: so please, no negative comments!
